Upcycling: Red, Red Roses

ImageImageImageImageI had started this project with red paint, as it turned out I didn’t like it. I had this paint left over and decided why not make some flowers, I took a paper bag, the thinnest one I could find so that the paient would penetrate. I painted both sides and I made these two roses. The stems are made out of bamboo sticks and the string I used to tie them this time was pizza string, that is red and white. Enjoy

Upcycling: Medicine Woman Paper Doll

ImageImageImageI had been thinking about making a medicine man or woman paper doll. I decided to make a medicine paper doll woman. She is made out of a box of cereal, her dress and cape are made out of gift wrap. Her necklace is made out of these plastic things that came with a nail in them to keep the internet cable in place. I had a bunch of these plastic things and I just took out the small nail and inserted a piece of black elastic through the holes to make the necklace enjoy.

Upcycling: Victorian Paper Doll

ImageImageI started this doll with the idea of what a victorian paper doll would look like. I decided I had a nice pink gift wrap with flowers on it. This is how I made the dress the other thing was a hat. I decided to make it out of a paper towel inner roll and cutting a piece of cardboard for the top and cutting ring around it. I then covered this hat with gift wrap. I used the meshing from  a garlic bag to make the lace area around the hat. Her collar and belt are made out of elastic I had left over. Her hair is made out of plastic bag handles. Enjoy

Her dress is also all made out of plastic, shower curtain liner. Her sword is made out of the metal liner for tea light candles. This metal is very pliable. The scales are made out of cardboard with a piece of pliable metal in the middle and covered with plastic. The actual metal parts are made out of left over pieces of packing and the chain to hang the scale is actually the tie strings that come with vegetables. I simply stripped it down to the metal wire. Upcycling: Simple Gift Paper Tissue Flower

Picture 038Picture 037Picture 036

I started  out trying to figure out what to do with three pieced of left over gift tissue paper. I had already made a dress for a paper doll. Well, I figured I had enough to make a flower and I did. The thing is that I have made a couple of white flowers already. I decided why not spray paint the edges with gold, and I did. I will probably get a little more inventive from this point on. Enjoy

Upcycling: Candle Container becomes Luxury Bath

Picture 039

A great thank you for  all of you who posted you liked my flowers made out of gift wrap. Sometimes stress can really help you upcycle.

I’m always tinkering with things. I love candle containers specially the ones with a nice top. I had gotten this scented candle around Thanksgiving and it was a really nice scent and finally I decided to use it.  Once it was finished I decided to make one of my bath preparations. Usually I grind oatameal and mix it with dry milk and as long as it is dry it makes a wonderful bath. This time I decided to just keep the oatmeal by itself. The otatmeal is very soothing to the skin. I also tied a blue lace type of ribbon I had with a wooden spoon from another bath I had. Enjoy.

Upcycling: All flowers from gift wrap and more

ImageImageImageFirst a thank you, to the blogger camryforrest 57 for your comment on the snow globe. I always appreciate all the comments and feedback, In upcycling you are always learning how to re-use and make things better.

I was really feeling stressed and the best way I know to keep my fingers busy and stress at bay is to upcycle of course. I decided that I would pull  of the closet out as many of the left over gift wraps I have. I decided I’m making flowers. The result was that I cut circles from every type of wrap and even sliver wrap, and a New York city subway map and made all these flowers and attached them to bamboo sticks. My technique is basically taking a piece of paper cutting it in a circle and then folding it in half and using a glue stick as I twirl the paper around to make it into a flower. I always use some kind of kite string to tie the base  and apply more glue to it. Enjoy

Upcycling: Upcycled Snow Globe

ImageImageImageI used to love snow globes when I was a kid. I decided to try my hand at making one. I started with a bottle that had a nice design at the bottom since I knew I would be turning it upside down. I next used a plastic bottle cap and some old plastic teddy bears that stack up. I opened a hole in the bottle cap and stuck the teddy bears in the middle and glued them together with water proof glue. I took the teddy bears and bottle cap and then glued them on to the jar’s lid. For the top I used gold glitter and gold spray. For the base I just used a gold ribbon glued on. Enjoy
