Upcycling: The Golden Queen and her subjects Paper Dolls

ImageImageI had this packing from a yogurt maker and I said that kind of looks like a mountain, where those statues should go. I then went on to make this gold queen paper doll and cut outs of both boys and girls, painted them and glued them around to make it look like a queen’s subject. The queen’s crown is really just the shape with lines drawn with a permanent marker and a dot in the middle. Enjoy

Upcycling: Scented sachets for drawers

ImageI saw this television program where you could make scented rice by simply putting an oil with fragrance in it and letting sit for a week or two. One day I had spilled some really nice jasmin rice all over my kitchen floor and I was well here it all goes out in the garbage. But, I decide to salvage whatever rice was clean for this recipe. I then put it in a small plastic bowl and put a couple of drops of scented oil I had. I let it stay covered in this bowl for about two weeks and sure enough the oil was completely absorbed. I then made these simple bags out of that old table runner tied them up and here I have sachets for drawers. In one I used a plastic strip from a plastic bag to tie it, and the other I used a piece of left over ribbon. Enjoy

Upcycling: The Cloth Flower

ImageImageThis flower is made out of bits and pieces of cloth left over from a table runner. I took the cloth and with a sewing needle gave it a shape of a flower,  I then put it on a bamboo stick and sprayed it to make the flower firm once it dries up. Enjoy

Upcycling: Home Made Lantern from Glass Container

ImageImageImageOf course I’m always re-using and thinking what else could I make with this or that. This lantern is really a candle container from scented container. I then had this pretty but pretty ragged runner for a table. I was about to toss it out and then I said I could do something with this. I glued this otherwise fragile material on to the container and it became stronger and here it is a lantern. Enjoy

Upcycling: Paper flower with a Smiling Sun

ImageImageHope this flower brings a smile to everyone’s face. I made this flower out of the paper wrapping for toilet paper roll .It just happens that this paper had a smiling sun picture. I worked with the paper like all the other flowers I make. The only difference is that I made a point of having the sun’s smiling face on the outside. Enjoy

Upcycling: Upcycling the Clay Pot

ImageJust when you think about a clay pot and how good they are to use for house plants; I think I want to re-invent it a bit. I took this pretty old clay pot and wash it. I then painted the botton a light green and the rim a bright red. It gives an old clay pot a new twist. Enjoy

Upcycling: Burlesque Paper Doll

ImageThe other I saw a picture and it was about a burlesque type of show where the women wore these fancy dresses with feathers around their neck and feathers on top of their head. I decided to make a paper doll. I started with a box of cereal, a blue feather from a duster, gift wrap for her dress and some little girl’s earrings I had. Her hair is made out of plastic bag handles and the wrapping around her shoulders is made out of tissue paper. Enjoy

Upcycling: Heart Shapes on Canvas

Picture 106

Picture 107I was watching one of these shows where you can cut different color dots out of cardboard and glue them on to a white background canvas. I decided that I would make a miniature canvas out of cardboard from a box of cereal. Painted with white paint, and then I decided why not do something with hearts, The first heart I simply punched holes around it. The second heart is what was left and I took the little cout out dots and glued it on. Enjoy
